On May 19, South Carolina Governor McMaster signed a new law into effect that should encourage drivers to slow down through construction zones and keep highway workers safe.

The law creates bigger fines for those who disobey traffic signs or disregard orange traffic cones. They can also be charged with endangering a highway worker.

This bill was approved unanimously after two SC DOT workers were killed by a reckless driver several months ago.

Traffic laws are always important to obey and the consequences of driving recklessly can be severe. Car accidents can cause serious injuries as well as deaths.
