You’ve completed the survey. What’s next?

As focus groups arise in your area, our coordinator will reach out to you regarding your availability for an upcoming focus group. Please respond as quickly as possible.

We do our best to select jurors in the order of which they filled out a survey, along with creating a demographically correct jury for the county in which it is held.

Some people will be chosen right away depending on need, while others may wait longer. Please do not complete the initial survey more than once.

How will I know I’ve been chosen to participate in the scheduled events I selected in the Availability Questionnaire?

Once you share your availability, our focus group coordinator will send you a confirmation text for the scheduled event.

If you don’t receive a confirmation text, the jury seats are filled, and you aren’t scheduled to attend.

Our team will work to seat you in the next upcoming event based on your availability.

Where are focus groups held?

We host focus groups in every county statewide as cases arise in addition to events at our Conway, North Charleston, and Myrtle Beach offices. Currently, an in-house courtroom is under construction in Greenville as well.

I’m interested in a virtual focus group session. May I participate online?

Event dates, times, and locations are listed in the Availability Questionnaire that will be sent from our focus group coordinator as cases arise in your area. Please select the virtual option when completing your questionnaire. In the event no virtual options are listed, this means all scheduled events are currently being held in-person.

How many times may I participate in a focus group?

Each person who indicates a desire to participate and completes a survey will be allowed to do so. This is a one-time commitment but there may be future opportunities depending on whether there is a need for returning participants.

If all juror participants are able to serve when a focus group is ready to begin, alternates who are dismissed will receive $40 each.  In the event one or more jurors are not able to serve, alternates may be selected to serve as jurors and will instead receive $100 (or $200 if the focus group is a full-day event) for their service.

Will participating in a focus group at the Derrick Law Firm increase my chances of being called for jury duty?

No, it will not increase your chances of being called for jury duty. Our focus group events are a service we provide for clients and are completely separate from civil and criminal jury trials held by the state of South Carolina.

Can my spouse, relative, or friend be in the same focus group as me?

Yes, you may participate with a spouse, relative, or friend if that makes attending a focus group feasible for you.  However, we will try to place you in separate deliberation groups to capture your independent opinions.

We look forward to seeing you at a focus group soon!
