Every year, May hosts two bike rallies in Myrtle Beach that bring thousands of riders and spectators to the Grand Strand.
The Spring Bike Rally and Memorial Weekend BikeFest have maintained their popularity which has allowed for locals and local officials to become more efficient in managing traffic and hosting rally spots.
Here is what to know for this year's bike rallies:
1. Burnout at Suck Bang Blow Bar: A burnout pit will attract many to participate and watch down on the south end of the beach in Murrells Inlet. Traffic will be congested and parking limited, so be aware of your surroundings and drive carefully. Many pedestrians are also out in the Murrells Inlet area.
2. Cruising Ocean Boulevard: BikeFest is known for "cruisin' the strip" or traveling up and down Ocean Boulevard. Because traffic becomes severely congested, Myrtle Beach now has a traffic loop issued for 10 p.m.. to 2 a.m.. from May 26 to 29.
The traffic loop has been effective in keeping the flow of traffic moving so it will be implemented again this year. According to Myrtle Beach Online, "The 23-mile loop will start at 29th Avenue North and Ocean Boulevard, moving south on the boulevard to Kings Highway near the Myrtle Beach airport, then up Harrelson Boulevard to U.S. 501, onto northbound U.S. 31, down southbound George Bishop Parkway, onto 29th Avenue North, and back onto Ocean Boulevard."
3. New Parking Rules: Myrtle Beach has new parking rules in place that require paid parking. Make things easy and download the Parkmobile App that will allow you to park and pay via the app.
With all the traffic and changes, it is important to remember that safety come first when on a motorcycle or driving a car. Look out for bikes and pedestrians and limit your distractions.
