For the past few years, Myrtle Beach officials have place a travel route in place for the Memorial Weekend Bikefest that brings in huge crowds to the area.
The route has made drivers trying to reach the airport take a large detour including taxi and rideshare drivers which has proved to be very inconvenient. The route is a 23 mile loop that was designed to keep traffic moving as congestion comes easily during holiday weekends.
This year, taxis and vehicles with an uber or lyft sticker will be allowed to break the loop in order to reach the airport for a passenger. Other cars will have to keep moving along the route.
The traffic loop for Bikefest is from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. from May 26 to 29, 2017.
According to www.MyrtleBeachOnline.com, "all traffic on Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach from 29th Avenue North to Kings Highway will be southbound for the entire weekend, from May 26 to 30. Northbound lanes will be used for emergency responders and tow trucks."
With upcoming bike weeks and increased traffic, drivers are encouraged to watch out for motorcycles and be aware of their surroundings. Increased motorcycle accidents as well as pedestrian accidents occur during this times and they can be prevented.
