Two federal agencies proposed a new maximum speed for newly built tractor trailers that may be decided on by the Trump Administration.

The proposal would have tractor trailers electronically set to not exceed a speed of 68mph. Proponents of the limit originally suggested the change in 2006 saying it would make the highways safer.

A spokesperson for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said even if accepted, the normal regulatory process could take as long as until August 2017.
