The Wall Street Journal recently shared news from the National Security Council that said motor vehicle deaths were up by 6% in the year 2016.
These numbers gathered by NCS show an increase of 14% since 2014, which is the biggest increase in over 50 years.
Data gathered by the National Security Council is different than the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration because it includes traffic and non-traffic deaths within a year of an accident.
These deaths include being under the influence, speeding, and distracted driving such as texting.
At 40,200 deaths last year, the NCS and the NHTSA have pledged to work together to end traffic fatalities.
