Mason was born and raised on a farm in Johnsonville, South Carolina, in Florence County. After graduating valedictorian from Johnsonville High School, Mason attended Clemson University, graduating magna cum laude with a B.S. degree in Biological Sciences and a B.A. degree in English. Mason also received a Master’s degree in English from Clemson University and then spent four years there teaching in the English department.
After teaching at Clemson, Mason then attended law school at the Charleston School of Law, serving as an associate editor for the Charleston Law Review. Upon graduating Charleston School of Law in 2011, Mason spent one year clerking for the Honorable J. Michael Baxley, a circuit court judge with South Carolina’s Fourth Judicial Circuit. After his clerkship ended, Mason began practicing personal injury law with the Douglas Jennings Law Firm in Bennettsville, South Carolina. Mason remained with the Douglas Jennings Law Firm from 2012 until the end 2025, at which point he joined Derrick Law Firm Injury Lawyers in the Florence office.
During his career, Mason has tried several cases to verdict, in both state and federal court. Mason was named a Super Lawyers Rising Star from 2017-2021, and from 2022-present, Mason has been selected as a member of Super Lawyers.
Mason is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, the South Carolina Bar Association, the South Carolina Association for Justice, the Pee Dee Inn of Court, and the Florence County Bar Association. Mason lives in Florence with his wife, Kelly, and their two sons, Ryder and Watson. When he is not working, Mason enjoys being with his family, hunting on his family farm, and exploring the creeks in Murrells Inlet.
