Toy Dart Sets Sold at Family Dollar Stores Target of Recall
The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall of toy dart sets sold exclusively at Family Dollar stores. The CPSC received two reports of asphyxiation deaths involving children under the age of 10.
The darts are made of a soft, pliable plastic and if placed in the mouth, it can be easily inhaled and lodge in the throat making it impossible for the child to breathe. The Family Dollar store worked with the CPSC to recall the toy because the maker of the set, Henry Gordy International, refused to recall the product. The sets were sold between September 2005 and January 2009.
Consumers are urged to throw the toy dart gun sets away or contact the store for a refund.
