New Crib Standards Help Ensure Your Child's Safety

On June 28, 2011 new mandatory safety standards took effect for infant cribs. These new standards were released by the Consumer Product Safety Commission and require manufacturers and retailers to meet the new standards. These include the following 5 things:

1.) Traditional drop-side cribs cannot be made or sold; immobilizers and repair kits are not allowed
2.) Wood slats must be made of stronger woods to prevent breakage
3.) Crib hardware must have anti-loosening devices to keep it from coming loose or falling off
4.) Mattress supports must be more durable
5.) Safety testing must be more rigorous

According to reports from the CPSC, detaching drop-side rails were associatedc with at least 32 infant deaths since 2000. These new standards will make for a safer enviroment while your children are sleeping. For more information please visit www.cpsc.gov
