Authorities then state that Tompkins became unconscious and after regaining consciousness he discovered that he and his friend had been ejected from the boat and were both in the water with the boat circling them.

Authorities were called to the park around 9:30 a.m. and found Brown Jr. had sustained a fatal traumatic injury.  Tompkins was taken to AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson for treatment. The coroner's office as well as the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources are investigating the case as well as examining the boat.
