Corporal Kevin Cusack, 45, of Florence was killed in a one vehicle car crash while he was on duty early Saturday morning. His cruiser ran off Highway 200 around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday approximately six miles outside of Lancaster near a curve and intersection of a side road to the highway. He was the only one involved in the crash.
Cusack had served Highway Patrol for 21 years, patrolling York County. He had taken a temporary assignment covering Lancaster and Chesterfield counties.
South Carolina Highway Patrol is undertaking the investigation to discover details about the accident to see whether or not Cusack was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, had his emergency lights on or was responding to a call.
