A man who had been running along the side of U.S. 17 Bypass near Myrtle Beach was struck by a vehicle when he attempted to cross to the other side.

A van, traveling south of the Bypass, struck the pedestrian while going 40 mph around 4 pm on Wednesday afternoon. The man had to be transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. He is currently in an induced coma.

Witnesses say the man had been running on the side of the road and then ran out in front of the vehicle. No charges will be filed against the driver of the van.
