The city of North Charleston has heavy hearts as one of its own firefighters was killed in a car accident several days ago.

Firefighter, Edward, E.J., Mascaro, 34-years-old, hit a tractor trailer that was making a left turn onto the highway from a private driveway. He was pronounced dead at the scene after he and two others were extricated from the car.

One of the passengers was taken to the hospital, treated and released, while the other passenger was taken to MUSC where he had surgery and remains hospitalized.

All three men are firefighters in the Charleston area and were roommates.

South Carolina Highway Patrol had not determined if charges would be pressed at the time of the accident.
