Posted on Apr 20, 2010

Miguel Angel Murillo, 18, of Myrtle Beach was arrested Tuesday in connection with the fatal crash that occurred a week ago in the Forestbrook community when he tried to avoid being stopped by an Horry County police officer. He was charged with reckless homicide in the death of his teen passenger, Lucero Sanchez Martinez, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Murillo was driving a Mitsubishi Galant while fleeing an Horry County police officer when he collided with a Ford Expedition on McCormick Road. Martinez, his passenger, was pronounced dead at Conway Medical Center from massive trauma. Murillo was flown by medical helicopter to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, N.C. for treatment where he was released this week. Gary Johnson, the driver of the Expedition, suffered a cut to his leg and bruises. He was treated and released the same day from Conway Medical Center.

Murillo was arrested early Tuesday morning and taken to J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
