Posted on Oct 17, 2011

A North Charleston police officer laid down his motorcycle in order to avoid a collision early Friday morning but was injured after he hit a pickup truck. The officer, Phillip Kickland, 38, was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Kirkland had been heading west on Centre Pointe Drive on his motorcycle around 7 am when Matthew Palmer, 33, tried to make a left turn in front of Kirkland. Kirkland laid the bike down but hit the truck himself. Troopers have charged Palmer with failing to yield right of way.
