General Motors Recalls Police Car

Posted on Mar 31, 2016

After several complaints on many police cars and their steering wheels losing power assisted steering, General Motors has issued a recall.

The recall is for around 6,300 Chevrolet Caprice models dating 2014-2016. General Motors says corrosion on the connector causes a problem because most police cars run around 20 hours a day, and heat that builds up under the hood can cause the corrosion.

GM says even if the power assisted steering fails, the wheel can still be turned manually, however it is much more difficult and increases the risk of accidents.

If this affects you, your dealer will replace the steering gear control unit.
