When an elderly woman at Park Pointe Village, an assisted living community, realized that her caretaker was stealing her checks and cashing them, she reported it to the police. The worker was suspended from the assisted living community but reentered the next day using her electronic card to enter the premises.
The worker then smothered the woman to death.
The victim's family since filed suit against Park Pointe Village for not protecting her against the former employee by allowing her access to the facility. The wrongful death case recently settled for $1.5 million.
