Witnesses say the vehicle, driven by Angela Renee Harrelson, 44, of Loris, ran into a wooded area and then caught on fire at around 6 pm in the Cool Springs area of Aynor. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Harrelson's 4-year-old niece was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for treatment. The extent of her injuries are not yet known.
In October, a man was killed in a car accident around the same area. Neighbors in the Cool Springs are want something to be done about the danger, and have suggested a guard rail be put up.
Highway Patrol is still investigating the cause of the accident.
