BMW, VW recalls models for fire hazards
BMW has recalled 1 Series luxury cars from model years 2008-2011 for a flaw in the front seat belt latch that could possibly ignite.
Volkwagon has recalled 15,000 Routan model minivans for faulty rear-door latches. The sliding door hinge bracket on the vehicles could wear through wire insulation in the latch that could result in an overheated latch that could then catch fire within the rear sliding door.
Volkswagon will issue a safety recall to consumers this month. Owners should contact their local Volkswagon dealership to schedule a service time to inspect and repair the rear sliding door components. The service will be free of charge.
BMW owners should contact the car manufacturer or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
