After the recall of General Motors vehicles that contained a faulty ignition switch causing accidents and many deaths, the company has begun to accept claims from those affected.
The time period to file a claim is from August 1 until December 31, 2014. To date, 107 deaths have been reported amongst 309 total claims.
Before a claim is eligible for compensation, it must be approved by Feinburg and staff to prove the ignition switch was the cause of the injuries or death. It was said that eligibility for compensation will be made between 90 to 180 days of receiving the claim.
GM has set aside $400 million for claims but is not capped in the event more is needed.
