Upstate Man Killed in Boating Accident

Thursday morning an upstate South Carolina man was killed in a boat accident on Hartwell Lake near Darwin Wright Park in Anderson. According to Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore, two men, Larry Dwayne Brown Jr. and Daniel Tompkins, were boating during the morning hours beginning around 6:30 a.m. when they decided to change locations. Authorities then state that Tompkins became unconscious and after regaining consciousness he discovered that he and his friend had been ejected from the boat and were both in the water with the boat circling them.

Authorities were called to the park around 9:30 a.m. and found Brown Jr. had sustained a fatal traumatic injury.  Tompkins was taken to AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson for treatment. The coroner's office as well as the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources are investigating the case as well as examining the boat.
