Suspect in Fatal Hit-and-Run Stabbed After Returning to Scene of Accident

Posted on Sep 26, 2011

The man accused of hitting and killing a soldier from Texas in Aiken County with his pickup truck Friday night was taken to hospital after being stabbed. The victim, SFC Maurice J. Collier, of Fort Hood, Texas, was attending a motorcycle rally on Edgefield Highway when he was hit around 8:10 pm by a Ford F-350 driven by Glenn Otts.

According to reports, Collier was directing traffic near the parking lot entrance when he was hit. He was taken to Athens Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. Otts left the scene but returned shortly after and was confronted by a group of bikers. He was stabbed by an unknown assailant during an altercation.

The Highway Patrol is investigating Collier's death and Aiken County deputies are investigating the stabbing.
