SCDOT Says Yauhanna River Bridge Safe After Fatal Crash

A fatal accident involving an 18-wheeler on Highway 701 Monday April 11, 2011 has closed parts of the highway at the Yauhanna River Bridge. According to authorities, an 18-wheeler went off the bridge and flipped over killing the driver. Because of the damage to the bridge, the South Carolina Department of Transportation came to the crash site to assess the safety of the bridge. They determined it is still safe for drivers but 65 feet of railing must be replaced and meet DHEC regulations before it can be reopened.

Traffic is currently being diverted at Pee Dee Highway to avoid the crash site.
