Punitive Damages Awarded to Victim Hit by Drunk Driver

After a woman was hit by a repeat drunk driving offender, a Richland County jury awarded the victim over $1 million in punitive damages.

Jami Allison Owens sustained injuries in an accident that happen in October of 2011 after a University of South Carolina Football game.  She was also awarded $89,000 for her actual medical damages.

The prosecutor and jury felt it was necessary to send a message that drunk driving is irresponsible and reckless.
