Police chase Ends with Motorcyclist Dead

An early Wednesday morning police chase led to the death of a motorcycle driver. An officer witnessed a motorcycle driving extremely fast on SC Highway 9 around 12:30 am. The officer attempted to stop the motorcycle to issue a speeding ticket. However, the motorcyclist refused to stop and lost control of the bike near the intersection of Highway 9 and Olive Road in the Green Sea community.

After leading the officer on a chase, the motorcylist ran into a ditch and was ejected from the bike. The force of that caused his helmet to come off. He was transported to the hospital where he later died from the injuries sustained in the crash. The victim was identified as Hartford Dwayne Holmes.

The SC Highway Patrol's MAIT team is still investigating the accident.
