Playard tents recalled for strangulation risk

Playard tents manufactured by Tots in Mind, a New Hampshire-based company, have been recalled due to risk of strangulation, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced in a voluntary recall Friday.

The tents, imported from China and sold from January 2005 to February 2010 for $60 throughout the country, have clips that can break or be removed by the child. The child can then become entrapped between the frame of the playard and the base rod of the tents.

The commission has said that there was one reported death of a 2-year-old child by strangulation from being entrapped in the tent parts.

The recalled tents are dome-shaped and white with insect screening. Consumers should stop use of them immediately and contact the manufacturer, Tots in Mind, Inc. to receive replacement clips.
