One Person Killed After Log Truck Collides with Tractor

One person is dead after a tractor-trailer accident. A log truck carrying a load of logs collided with a tractor on Lodge Highway in Colleton County Thursday afternoon. The farmer, John Shirey, 40, died from bodily injuries sustained in the crash. The SC highway patrol says that Shirey was driving a 1969 John Deere farm tractor and was trying to make a left hand turn onto Sunflower Lane when the driver of the log truck loaded with logs tried to pass on a double yellow and crashed into the tractor. The log truck overturned in the accident and spilled logs onto the road.

The accident is still under investigation by the SC Highway Patrol and the Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team.
