One Person Airlifted After Auto Accident on I-20 in Florence

Saturday morning eastbound I-20 in Florence was shut down due to a single car auto accident. One person was airlifted to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center and two others were transported via ambulance to Florence Regional Medical Center. The auto accident happened around 10:45 a.m. when the driver of an SUV lost control and the SUV rolled multiple times before landing in a swamp alongside the interstate near mile marker 139. Because one person had to be transported via helicopter, the interstate was shut down to serve as the landing zone. The traffic backup was miles long, into Darlington County and west beyond SC 340 interchange.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
