North Carolina teenager dies after crash in Myrtle Beach

Jesse Blackwelder, 18, from Harrisburg NC, died Saturday afternoon after succumbing to injuries sustained in a car accident that took place on March 27th.

The accident was the second at the intersection of 17th Ave South and Grissom Parkway to result in fatality. Both wrecks were caused by a failure to yield right-of-way.

 

Blackwelder and three others had been driving to Myrtle Beach to watch a cheering competition. The driver, Justin Efird, ran a stop sign before striking another vehicle. Blackwelder was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. A passenger for the other car was also ejected from the vehicle, but has since recovered from his injuries. Efird has been cited for disregarding a stop sign.
