Multi-vehicle crashes stall 501 traffic in Conway

Several vehicles were involved in a chain reaction of traffic accidents on Enoch Road near the intersection of 501 early Tuesday morning in Conway. The road was shut down for a couple hours as tow trucks cleared vehicles from the scene, causing traffic delays on 501.

The accidents occurred between 7:30 and 7:45 am, beginning when the driver of a car stopped to check on a car in a ditch on Enoch Road. A car travelling behind the other car then rear-ended the vehicle. Other cars approaching also hit the cars ahead of them. Low visibility in the area due to heavy smoke in the air most likely contributed to the wrecks.

Two individuals getting out of their cars to check on the conditions of those involved in the accident were also hit by oncoming vehicles. A total of 7 cars and 2 pedestrians were involved in the morning wreck. 4 or 5 people were taken to the hospital. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

Highway Patrol has said that there will continue to be smoke in the area even after the scene has been cleared, so drivers should continue to exercise caution while travelling on Enoch Road and 501 in Conway.
