Multiple Car Accident Occurs on 501

Beach-bound traffic, already clogged, was put at a standstill for a period of time this Tuesday. One vehicle rear-ended another on U.S. 501 South towards Myrtle Beach between the Carolina Forest neighborhood and Tanger Outlet Mall. The collision resulted in a chain-reaction, ultimately involving four vehicles.

Emergency crews worked to clear the scene after the accident occurred around 8:15 Tuesday morning. In the already heavily congested area, traffic was slowed to a near stop. EMS crews shut down both lanes in order to extricate at least one victim. However, no serious injuries have been reported. 

In order to ease the traffic congestion, crews on the scene diverted traffic onto the grass median to route them around the scene of the accident. 

Troopers are still investigating the cause of the accident and no charges have yet been made. The stoplight at the Carolina Forest area and between the Tanger Outlet Mall is already cause for much of the slow beach-bound traffic going towards Myrtle Beach.
