Surfside Motorcycle Accident Tuesday Evening

Officials say that no charges have been filed yet in a motorcycle accident that happened overnight Tuesday night in Surfside Beach. A motorcycle, driven by a Virginia woman, collided with a Jeep. The driver of the motorcycle was unconscious after the accident and was taken to the hospital. The driver of the Jeep was uninjured. Police are still working to determine the cause of the accident.

Victim of Highway 17 Motorcycle Accident Attempted to Flee

Charleston County officers say that a man that was in a motorcycle accident on Highway 17 attempted to run away after the accident. The accident happened around 1:15 pm near the 1500 block of US 17 in Awendaw. A deputy saw a 2004 Kawasaki motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed south on Highway 17. The motorcycle crashed before the deputy could catch up with it. The driver, 32-year-old Frank Baughn, attemtped to run away on foot. They deputy caught him and he was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries.
Officals state that he will most likely be charged with driving under suspension and reckless driving.

Virginia Motorcyclist Charged with Felony DUI After Accident

A motorcyclist from Virginia is behind bars and facing felony DUI cahrges after an accident on Mr. Joe White Ave. Sunday. According to reports, Kenneth Tarpey, 45, was driving a 20047 Harley Davidson east on Mr. Joe White Ave. Sunday when the bike hit a curb and landed in a small field near Dunbar Street. Police found Tarpey under the bike with lacerations to the head and face. The female passenger was thrown from the bike and landed 15 feet away and was unconscious. Police say that Tarpey's speech was slurred and he failed more than 3 field sobriety tests. He was taken to jail and later charged with felony DUI. The passenger's injuries were listed as serious. Tarpey remains in jail with bond set at $30,000.00.

Conway Woman Dead After Motorcycle Accident

A Conway woman was involved in a motorcycle accident Saturday evening at 9:15 pm and has since passed away. Kimberly Holden fell off the back of the motorcycle she was riding on on Highway 501 near Conway. The driver, Donnie Ray, was going north on Highway 501 when she fell off the back of his 2002 motorcycle. Ray has sinced been charged with felony DUI.

Georgetown Man Dies in Motorcycle Accident

One Georgetown man is dead following a motorcycle accident last Friday afternoon. According to reports, the two occupants of the motorcycle traveling north on Highway 17 were thrown from the bike north of the Garden City Connector. They struck the rear of an SUV which caused them to be ejected from the motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet but survived long enough to be transported along with his passenger to the hospital. The driver, Melvin Richard Perry, Jr., died of internal injuries at the hospital Saturday morning.
No charges are being filed against the driver of the SUV and that person did not sustain any injuries in the accident.

Biker Dies in Highway 544 Crash

A motorcyclist is dead after an accident Saturday evening on Highway 544. The accident invovled a motorcycle and another car. Reports state that the Honda bike and a Chevrolet were both traveling west when the bike changed lanes and hit the car. The biker was not wearing a helmet and was taken to the hospital with injuries. Mitchell Lewellen, 57, was identified as the victim. The two people in the car were wearing seat belts and were not harmed in the accident.

Motorcyclist Dead After Accident with 18-Wheeler

A motorcyclist is dead after sustaining injuries when his bike collided with an 18-wheeler. The victim, Scott Arrington, 44, was involved in the accident around 7:30 am Monday near Remount Road and Virginia Avenue in North Charleston. The driver of the 18-wheeler, Louis Hunter Jr., exited a parking lot turning in front of the motorcycle. This caused the accident which later killed Arrington. The driver of the tractor-trailer has been charged with reckless homicide.

Motorcyclist Dies After Hitting the Rear of Vehicle

A Chapin man is dead after a motorcycle accident on Saturday in Columbia. The driver, 53-yaer-old William Mack Garner was killed on Hopewell Church Road near Broad River Road when his motorcycle ran into the back of a pickup truck that was slowing down to make a right turn off of Highway 176. Garner was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead due to massive head trauma. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Driver Charged after Deadly Motorcycle Accident

A Columbia man is behind bars after he was charged in the death of another in a motorcycle accident Friday evening. Police have charged 41-year-old Christopher Webster with reckless homicide after the accident which occured in the 4600 block of Hard Scrabble Road.
According to investigators, Webster was pulling his pickup truck out of the Publix parking lot when he hit a motorcycle attempting to turn into the parking lot. The motorcyclist, 47-year-old James Finney was taken to the hospital with injuries where he later died. He did have a helmet on at the time of the accident.

Motorcycle Crash Sends One Man to the Hospital

A motorcycle accident in Conway sent one person to the hospital on Monday evening. The South Carolina Highway Patrol says that a motorcyclist was driving north on Highway 501 near Highway 378 around 8:30 pm when he veered into the paved median to pass other cars. He lost control of the motorcycle and crashed. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and was taken to the hospital. A helicopter was called to the scene to help with transporting the patient to the hospital.
The police are investigating the accident.
