Monday Accident Kills One Person, Injures Another

Highway Patrol troopers say that an accident on I-77 in Lexington County Monday morning killed one person and injured another. The accident happend at 5:49 a.m. at exit 1 of I-77 southbound near the intersection with I-26. The driver of a 2000 Chevy Blazer was not wearing a seatbelt and went off the left side of the road, lost control of the vehicle, and it overturned. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the car, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken to Palmetto Health Richland to be treated for injuries.

Two lanes of the interstate were closed for two hours Monday to clear the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
