Midlands Man Killed in Car Accident, Driver Charged with DUI

A woman who survived a car accident Saturday afternoon in Laurens County has been charged with felony DUI after her husband died as a result of the crash. 24-year-old Amanda Dickert was the driver in a crash that occurred around 4 pm on Highway 14 near Wilson Road in Laurens County. Dickert was driving with her husband when she collided with a 1979 Chrysler driven by Phyllis Lyons. The cars were heading in opposite directions at the time of the accident.
Dickert's husband died at the scene of the accident from injuries to the neck and chest. Dickert was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. Amanda Dickert was flown to the hospital to be treated for injuries and was charged Monday with felony DUI. The other driver was treated at a local emergency room.
The accident remains under investigation by the police.
