Man Drowns in Murrells Inlet Early Sunday

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources has identified the body of George Nathan Kennerly, 46, after he apparently drowned early Sunday morning in Murrells Inlet. His body was found in the water near Cedar Hill resting against some marsh grass.

A passing boater noticed Kennerly's empty boat and called officials. Though his body was found 1/2 mile from a private boat landing, there was no indication of injury. Officials did find fishing equipment and a small quantity of alcohol on the boat, but said that alcohol didn't appear to be a factor in his death. An autopsy will be performed in order to determine the cause of death.
