Johns Island Car Accident Leaves One Dead

Charleston County Coroner's office says Cierra Givens, 17, was the passenger killed in a wreck on Maybank Highway in the early morning hours of March 19. Authorities say she died from head and neck injuries sustained in the crash.

Charleston County Sheriff's Office states that Kayla Givens, 19 was driving eastbound on Maybank Highway near Bears Bluff Road, lost control of her 2003 Buick Century for an unknown reason, crossed the center line and struck a tree with the passenger side of the car. Kayla Givens' sister, Cierra, was the right front passenger in the car at the time of the accident and sustained fatal injuries. The Sheriff's office says that neither girl was wearing a seatbelt.

There are no indications that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident, however the investigation is still ongoing.
