Horry County Third in the State for Vehicle Fatalities

The South Carolina Highway Patrol has issued a county by county record of vehicle fatalities from January 1, 2011 to July 31,2011 and Horry County ranks third in vehicle fatalities.
According to the report, the number of highway fatalities in South Carolina since the beginning of the year has shown an increasing trend of 3% from last year with a total number of accidents resulting in death at 462. Out of those 462, Horry County ties for third with Lexington county with 28 highway deaths. Charleston County is first with a total of 32 deaths and Greenville County is second with 31 total highway deaths.
Even though the number of deaths has increased over the last year, Horry County has seen a major decrease over the past 3 years. The average fatalities in 2008 and 2009 was 32, and the total number of vehicle deaths in South Carolina was 544 during that same time frame. The state hopes by increasing safety measures and providing more education to the public that the numbers can continue to decrease and the roads in South Carolina will be safer.
