Horry County man dies in night crash

A man from Loris, South Carolina was killed in a late night vehicle crash on Highway 701 near the state line.

Robert Byerly, 56, died from injuries he sustained in the accident in the emergency room at Loris Community Hospital Thursday night. He died less than an hour after the crash occurred. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident.

Highway Patrol says the accident occurred on Highway 701 near the South Carolina/North Carolina state line in Loris was reported around 9:53 pm. Byerly was driving a 2-door Chevrolet vehicle when he was struck by a 1999 Kia SUV driven by Timothy Fowler, 24, of Tabor City, North Carolina. Fowler lost control of his vehicle and crossed the center line when he hit Byerly's car. Fowler was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Charges have not been filed yet in the accident as it is still under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
