Fan distributor agrees to pay $587,500 settlement

A distributor of fans has agreed to pay in excess of  $500,000  to settle a case alleging the company failed to timely report a defect and fire hazard in its oscillating fans.

The settlement was reached between the distributor, Haier America Trading LLC, and the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Manufacturers, distributors and retailers are required by law to immediately report defects that could create safety hazards. The Oscillating Tower Fan, model FTM140GG, is the fan in question.
