Families settle over wrongful death of child

Two Connecticut families have settled a wrongful death suit over the drowning of a 3-year-old child while he was under the care of a teenager babysitter.

Krista Repko was babysitting Cole Veenhuis and his twin sister in May of 2009 when Cole fell into the family's pool and drowned. The suit claims that Repko failed to act quickly in order to save the boy. It also claims that Repko's mother misrepresented her daughter's abilities as a babysitter to the Veenhuis family.

The Veenhuis family was awarded $1.1 million in damages. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Cole's sister, Hannah, and the family plans to put the settlement money in a trust for her to be used in part to help her cope with the loss of her twin brother.
