Effingham Man Killed in Motorcycle Accident

An early Monday morning car accident closed Alligator Road and killed a Florence man. The highway patrol states that the accident occurred around 5:40 am when the driver of a 4-door Mercury traveling south lost control of their car and crossed the center line into oncoming traffic. They struck a 2009 Yamaha motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet. He was identified as 54-year-old Ronald M. Hackett and he later died as a result of his injuries. No charges have yet to be filed in the accident but police are still investigating the accident.
