Crash on Highway 17 Sends 8 to the Hospital

A 4 car pile-up on Highway 17 near Georgetown Thursday morning sent 8 people to the hospital. Authorties say that the accident happened between the bridges connecting Georgetown and the Waccamaw Neck. Cars began stopping to avoid debris in the roadway causing a traffic backup. Police state that this backup caused a domino effect accident. 8 victims were transported to the hospital to be treated for injuries. 4 cars were involved in the accident and 2 of those cars caught fire during the accident.
The accident completely closed the bridge for over an hour. The accidents remain under investigation.
