Carjacking Leads Police on Chase Through Three Counties

A woman who witnessed a car flipping was the victim of a car carjacking. Lonnie Lamar Hazelton was the driver of the car that flipped, got out of the damaged vehicle and then stole the car of the woman who stopped to help him around 8PM Friday . The chase started in Charleston County and shots were fired at officers near McClellanville. Hazelton then abandoned the car and stole a second vehicle in Georgetown. Georgetown County Sherrif's deputies responded to the chase and spotted the car just north of the North Santee River on Highway 17. The deputies car came into contact with the stolen car and then Hazelton crashed into the woods. Hazelton exited the car again and officers spotted a handgun on the ground behind him. Hazelton was arrested and taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries. Luckily, no one was injured during the accidents or the chase.
The police continue to investigate the chase and SLED is also investigating due to shots being fired.
