Car Accident on Highway 501 Ties Up Traffic

The southbound lanes of Highway 501 were backed up for miles Tuesday afternoon after a multi-car accident. The accident happened around 3:30 p.m. near West Perry Road. The South Carolina Department of Transportation said that the southbound lanes were closed from Carolina Forest Blvd. to Wright Blvd. after the accidents occured. According to the SC Highway Patrol, a vehicle rearended another and caused that vehicle to go into the ditch. The first vehicle then struck another car and that car hit another. The driver of the car that went into the ditch was transported to the hospital.

The Highway patrol worked the accident scene and will continue an investigation.
