• Man Dies In Boating Accident on Lake Greenwood

  A Laurens County man has died in a fishing boat accident on Lake Greenwood on Friday March 25, 2011.  The accident happened near the U.S. Highway 76 bridge accross the lake.  The vitim was 38-year-old Jerry Lee Bowers, Jr. 

  According to authorities, Bowers and a friend were fishing in a 12-14 foot boat when it began taking on water.  When one of the men turned to get the tackle box, the boat shifted and took on even more water.  Bowers' friend tried to get a life jacket to him because he was not a very good swimmer but Bowers had already gone under the surface of the water.  Bowers never resurfaced.
