Bicyclist Traveling Against Traffic Struck by Van and Killed

The Myrtle Beach Police department has closed a section of Kings Highway from 17th Avenue North to 16th Avenue North because of a fatal accident involving a bicyclist and a van. Capt. David Knipes says two bicyclists were traveling north in the southbound lanes of Kings Highway when a van attempting to turn left onto Kings Highway from 16th Avenue North struck the female bicyclist.

The traffic light was green as the van moved to make the left turn. Knipes said that preliminary results of the investigation indicate that the woman suffered fatal injuries. She was a foreign exchange student from Russia.

The police are continuing to investigate the accident.
