4 family members killed in I-95 crash

Four members of a South Carolina family were killed Saturday in a crash along I-95 in North Carolina. A 90-year-old woman was also left critically injured.

The driver of a 2004 Saturn Vue, identified as Sylvester Pernell, 30, lost control of his vehicle. The SUV then ran off the road into a wooded median where it hit two pine trees and flipped over.

The driver and three others were killed in the accident: Jamal Pernell, 28, Kimberly Pernell, 21, and Georgia Pernell, 55. All four were from Dillon, S.C. and were members of the same family including Annie Mae Brown, 90, who was injured in the accident. Brown was airlifted from the scene of the wreck to Pitt County Memorial Hospital where she remains in critical condition.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol, who responded to the accident, are unsure what caused Sylvester Pernell to lose control of his vehicle. The accident is still under investigation.
