14 Year Old Killed In ATV Wreck Over The Weekend

A 14-year-old boy died over the weekend in Irmo, SC after an ATV accident. Daniel Beckworth and a 16-year-old passenger were riding an ATV on a dirt road when the vehicle went off the left side of the road, hit a tree, and turned over on its side around 6:00 P.M. Saturday. Both riders were restrained, but neither one was wearing a helmet. Daniel Beckworth died at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained in the accident.

Governor Nikki Haley has since agreed to sign a bill on all-terrain vehicle safety that is moving through the State House. She has stated that if the bill comes to her desk then she will sign it. The bill is known as Chandler's Law and says that drivers and riders under 16 must take a hands-on safety course and must also wear helmets and portective eyewear. Children under 6 would not be allowed to operate ATV's at all.
