1 Person Injured in Three Car Wreck on I-85

One person was taken to the hospital after receiving injuries in a three car accident at 3:49 P.M. Monday March 21, 2011.  The accident occured at mile marker 49 in the southbound lane of I-85 in Greenville County.

According to Lance Cpl. Bill Rhyne of the S.C. Highway Patrol, the driver of a 2010 Freighliner 18-wheeler was attempting to change lanes when he struck a 2007 GMC Yukon from behind.  The Yukon, whose driver had slowed to avoid debris in the road, then struck a 2004 Ford Ranger.  The SUV overturned and flipped off the right side of the road.  The driver of the SUV was wearing a seatbelt and sustained minor injuries and was transported to St. Francis Memorial Hospital.  A child inside the car was also wearing a seatbelt and did not sustain any injuries.  The other 2 drivers involved in the accident were also wearing seatbelts and were uninjured.  

The driver of the 18-wheeler was charged with driving too fast for conditions.
