Disability as defined by Social Security
Disability -- as defined by Social Security
Disability: the inability to engage in any substantial gainful activity due to a medically determinable impairment (physical or mental) or a combination of impairments which can be expected to result in death or which has lasted or can be expected to last for a continuous period of at least twelve months; or blindness.
Any substantial gainful activity may include past relevant work or any other work the person is qualified to do taking into account age, education and skills.
Substantial means any significant physical or mental activities.
Gainful is determined by evaluating earnings (without regard to legality).
Medically determinable impairment must have medical findings and/or laboratory findings to demonstrate existence.
Blindness is central visual acuity of 20/200 or less in the better eye with the use of corrective lenses.
The duration requirement entails that the severity of the condition must have lasted or be expected to last at least twelve months or result in death.
